Daniel
Tisch, APR
President
Daniel Tisch is widely known as a leader in the Canadian and global public relations community. He is the president of one of Canada’s premier independent PR firms and the Chair-elect of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communications Management, the umbrella organization for the world’s major PR industry associations.
Since Dan became president of Argyle Communications in 2003, the firm has expanded rapidly and earned a reputation as one of Canada’s fastest-growing mid-sized agencies. With thriving practices in consumer marketing, corporate and public affairs, and health communications, Argyle is invariably among the leaders in awards from the International Association of Business Communicators and the Canadian Public Relations Society. The firm earned eleven major industry awards in 2009 alone, and more than 50 under Dan’s leadership.
As a consultant, Dan has advised some of the world’s most respected organizations, including major consumer brands, financial services leaders, public companies, technology start-ups and giants, pharmaceutical manufacturers, not-for-profits, children’s aid societies and local, provincial and national governments in Canada and abroad. Dan is particularly known for his expertise in executive spokesperson training, stakeholder engagement, professional facilitation, strategic planning and creative message development. His public relations programs have earned him more than 60 awards from his industry peers.
Before joining Argyle, Dan was vice president of Environics Communications, Canada’s largest wholly management-owned public relations firm. Earlier, he held senior communications roles in the Canadian government. He was a Communications Advisor at the Federal-Provincial Relations Office, a Special Assistant to the Ministers of Immigration and Health and Welfare, Executive Assistant to the Minister of Communications, and Senior Policy Advisor and Acting Chief of Staff to Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. He also served as Chief of Strategic and Communications Planning for the telecommunications sector of Industry Canada.
Dan is a frequent media commentator on public relations and public affairs. His commentary on public relations has appeared frequently in the Globe and Mail, National Post, Toronto Star and Business News Network, and he was a bi-weekly public affairs analyst on CTV’s Canada AM from 2000 to 2003.
Born in Madrid, Spain, and raised in Toronto, Dan speaks English, French and Spanish. He holds two degrees from Queen’s University — a Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies and a Master of Business Administration (specializing in marketing). He has lectured on public relations at Queen’s School of Business for the last 13 years. In 2007, the Globe and Mail’s Report on Business magazine named him one of 16 ‘star alumni’ from Canada’s leading executive MBA programs.
Among many volunteer commitments, Dan is a member of the Queen’s University Council, a governor of Toronto’s North York General Hospital, a leader in Scouts Canada and one of the founders of Social Venture Partners Toronto.
