Taylor Cup Pond Hockey Championship raises more than $110,000 for The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation’s
Cancer Research Fund

3rd annual event in memory of Judy Taylor attracted participants from all over Ontario

Orillia, ON, February 3, 2008: The results are in for the 3rd annual Taylor Cup Pond Hockey Championship. The High n’ Mightez from Muskoka and Milton are the 2008 champions! The High n’ Mightez were up against Butler’s Battalion from Brampton in the final game and came away with a 12 - 9 win. Fundraising efforts are expected to exceed $110,000.

The weekend event, held in memory of Judy Taylor who lost her battle against cancer in 2003, was a great success. More than 150 players and 28 hockey teams hit the ice to face off against the competition — and cancer — at Bayview-Wildwood Resort on Sparrow Lake, just north of Orillia.

“We’re thrilled with the success of this year’s event,” said Lisa Cox, Tournament Director. “Now in its third year, the tournament has grown tremendously and the incredible support and generosity of all of the players and Judy’s family is unbeatable. Now we start planning for 2009!”

The Taylor Cup Pond Hockey Championship is old-school, 4-on-4 pond hockey – the way it was meant to be played. The three-day round-robin tournament provided hockey lovers with a chance to get away with friends and family to enjoy a fun and competitive weekend — all for a good cause. Proceeds will go to The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation’s Sarcoma Research Fund.

The 2008 Taylor Cup Pond Hockey Championship would like to thank its dedicated sponsors — Rogers Television, Culinary Destinations, KICX 104.1 FM, 105.9 JackFM, TD Securities and Maple Leaf Foods — for their support.
